Below is a sample resume that I’ve found that makes use of a Core Competencies section. Click on the picture to see the larger image.
I like using core competencies sections for several reasons. Firstly, it’s reminiscent of the “executive summary” section that you often see in executive resumes. It’s a section of your resume where you can give an overview of your professional abilities.
If you’re not going to with a qualification summary section, a core competencies section can be a strong choice. I wouldn’t use it to list “skills” per-se, however. Don’t list things like “Microsoft Office” or “Fluent In Spanish.” Instead, go with big picture things like, “Process Management” and “Lead Generation,” etc.
